You did it!

Hannah Young

Well, we got to the end of the online Higher Politics course!

That you have continued on with the course in some very challenging circumstances is testament to your unwavering work ethic and resilience.

I am so proud of you all.

Nine of you made it to the end and have or will soon be receiving your provisional grades for the course.

I hope this experience was a positive one and it serves to build your confidence as you have proven you can do anything that you put your mind to.

You are the trailblazers for the online pupils that will come after you and for that I am so grateful. I have learned so much from you and appreciated your feedback on all aspects of the course.

I wish you all well for the next phase of your academic journey. Should you ever need an academic reference in the future, please just get in touch as I would be delighted to offer a supporting statement about your abilities and character.

Have a relaxing, fun and safe summer holiday!

Best wishes

Hello

Hannah Young

Hello everyone

Just a quick update from me this afternoon:

1. Zoom calls are available with me next week after school - just drop me an email to secure a time. Email support is also available during the school day.

2. Thanks for all of the super work submitted. I have a few more pieces to assess and provide feedback on, but I anticipate that all work will be returned by 3.30pm today.

3. All revision workbooks are now complete and can be found in their own tab at the top of the page: 'Revision Workbooks'. These are not compulsory but might offer you some tips and prompts in the event that your school has scheduled a Politics assessment for you.

Have a great day!

Best wishes

Any questions?

Hannah Young

Hello everyone,

I expect that you will all have returned to school now and will be preparing for some future timed classwork in all of your subjects.

Thank you for the continued submissions of some really excellent work. You are all capable of doing very well this year and I would encourage you to keep going. I have returned all work submitted with marks and comments either via email or with comments added to your work in your student folders on the Dollar Discovers platform.

If you would like to speak to me in person, please send me an email to request a Zoom call. I can schedule this after school to fit in with your commitments.

You can also email me with any questions; there are no silly questions - this is a challenging experience for everyone in education right now, so please ask about anything you are unsure about.

This week I will be putting together some more revision workbooks for Unit II and will share these as soon as they are ready. I will make a new page on this website to store all of the revision workbooks so that they can be located easily.

I hope that you are well and have a good day at school.

Best wishes

A new multimedia resource!

Hannah Young

Hello all

I have been reading some of your feedback about how you would like to learn online, and wanted to offer you the use of an interactive textbook. As of today, there is one interactive textbook for the democracy theme of study, but if you let me know what you think, there is the possibility of creating more.

You can flip or turn the pages of the book on a laptop, desktop computer, tablet or mobile phone using this link here. The link will be available in the Democracy theme of study here so you can find it easily when revising this topic.

You will find that the interactive textbook incorporates the tasks, material and videos (which are also embedded and transcribed) along with hyperlinked text so that you can click on a word or phrase of which you may be unsure or just want to know more about.

Wherever you see a 'play' sign (a box with an arrow inside), this means that there is video content for you to play. These are the same videos that are available on this website, so this is not additional material, just an alternative format.

I would be really interested in your experience of using this interactive textbook, so please do let me know in the comments below!

You are working really well through the course...you should be very proud of yourselves as I am proud of you.

Have a good day

Request for feedback on accessibility

Hannah Young

Hello to you all.

I have enjoyed meeting you all this week and look forward to meeting more of you tomorrow. I will send out a confirmation of the structure of the Prelim after all of the Zoom calls have taken place so you can share your thoughts with me.

In the mean time, I would be appreciative if you would take a few minutes to complete this feedback form so I can understand better any issues that you have had or are having with the online course.

You will also have seen that I have created a new 20-mark Power, Authority and Legitimacy extended response question as you may wish to revise this for the Prelim and final exam. You can find that here.

Hello all

There have been major changes to the Higher Politics course following John Swinney's announcement in the Scottish Parliament yesterday (7/8/2020).

You need to be aware of the following:

1. The coursework aspect of the course - the Assignment - is no longer necessary to complete.

2. The Political Parties and Elections unit will contain the only 12 mark essay question in Paper 1.

3. The Political Parties and Elections section of the exam will contain all three topics (dominant ideas of political parties, political campaign strategies and theories of voting behaviour). You will be able to choose one of these topics to write about.

4. The 20 mark questions in Paper 1 will only be from Unit 1:Political Theory and Unit 2: Political Systems.

So, what this means is that you can choose to just learn and revise one of these Unit 3 topics and only as a 12 mark essay and you do not need to the Assignment.

Should you have any questions, please email me at Young-h@dollaracademy.org.uk

Best wishes
